Once the ornamental gardens of Childwall Hall, Childwall Woods now has many wonderful the largest collection of veteran trees in Merseyside dating back to the 17 th century.
The Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool sponsored two guided walks in August 2022, to explore some of the oldest and most important trees in Liverpool. Attendees looked at how old a tree must be to be given the title ‘Notable’, ‘Veteran’ or ‘Ancient’, their importance to our wellbeing and our environment.
The guide for the walk was a Verifier for The Ancient Tree Inventory (part of the Woodland Trust) and Secretary of Friends of Childwall Woods and Fields.
